WOODS, Patricia Louise (nee Blood)

April 20, 1932 – September 8, 2023

Patricia (Pat) Louise Woods, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2023 at the age of 91 years following a very short illness.

Born in Eston, Saskatchewan, her family moved to Calgary and then Cochrane when she was twelve.  It was in Cochrane where she met the love of her life, Lorne, and they married in November 1951.  Adventurous and exciting years followed, travelling the foothills of Alberta, towing the family home and raising the kids while Lorne worked seismograph, and then settling permanently in Cochrane in 1958.   Many lifelong friendships were made during their years in Cochrane.  She became involved in many community groups, but was more commonly referred to as “Akela” (Cub leader), for a number of years.  She loved to sew, craft, pick berries and garden.  She loved the outdoors and encouraged her children and extended family to always appreciate being outside.  She curled, golfed, played softball, skied, camped and attended many motorcycle races in the foothills of Alberta.   But, of all her many outdoor recreational activities fishing was her love, encouraged by her sons, and in direct competition with her husband, whether on the river, boating or on the ice and regardless of the time of day, such as an early 4:00 am rise for BC salmon or watching the evening moon come up on the Ghost dam, she enjoyed every minute of it.   In her later years she was devoted to spending as much time as possible with her young grandson, Alex, and enjoying the outdoors from their holiday trailer with family and friends.

She is survived by her beloved husband Lorne, daughter Gail, sons Guy and Craig, grandsons Andrew and Alexander, as well as many loving nieces and nephews and grandnieces and grandnephews.  She was predeceased by her parents, Sam and Mae Blood and her brother Wayne.

We are grateful to the Cochrane & District EMS, the medical staff at the Foothills Hospital and the care given at Dulcina Hospice.  Memorial donations may be made to Stars Ambulance.

At her request there will be no Celebration of Life.  She always said she would prefer her friends and family to remember the laughs and the fun they had.
