Getting my strut on with my mutt

A couple of late-entry mutts have signed up for the 13th annual Mutt Strut for the Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS), which takes place Sept. 6. Those mutts would be one Cochrane Eagle reporter and one Pembroke Welsh Corgi.

A couple of late-entry mutts have signed up for the 13th annual Mutt Strut for the Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS), which takes place Sept. 6.

Those mutts would be one Cochrane Eagle reporter and one Pembroke Welsh Corgi. Last time I checked, we both lacked papers and I’m certainly no purebred.

Nevertheless, we will be strutting our stuff this coming Saturday. My proud little beast Angie will sport her collar and leash as she wiggles her furry, perpetually shedding self throughout the pathways, beginning at Mitford Park.

My goal is to raise $100 — since I signed up for the event with a mere four days to spare, I thought it best to keep my goal low so I could be ever so impressed with myself if I raised even a dollar more.

In one day of fundraising I appear to be sitting at $67.30 — largely due to my Eagle team so far. And Cindy. Thanks guys.

An undisputable animal nut, I’m a sucker for societies that benefit those of the four-legged persuasion.

A once upon a time farm kid and horse girl, my favourite animal without question or hesitation is the almighty canine. Some of my best memories are attached to the dogs of my past and present and I really can’t imagine my life without one.

Actually, without two. But I do believe my rapidly aging cocker spaniel, Bailey, will sit this one out.

In a community like Cochrane, with no shortage of charities in need of your valuable donation dollars it’s understandable that people have to be selective on where they choose to put their hard-earned extras.

But let the record state that I am confident in the work that our local humane society has done since their 1998 inception and I’m amazed at the tireless efforts of staff and volunteers to care for canines, cats and even bunnies.

And for any of you dear readers and advertisers who either have a penchant for our paper or a soft spot for awkward dogs with stubby legs and wombat-like ears, I am gratefully taking donations to help me exceed my $100 mark and hand it over to the shelter folks who do such a great job at rescuing and re-homing our furry besties.

You are welcome to stop by the Eagle office and throw your pocket change into a jar located at our front desk or look me up by name at cochranehumane.ca and donate that way.

Our furry friends rely on the kind hearts of folks just like you.
