Pool/curling facility has taken much planning

Cochrane is already a community of choice, and last week’s decision by council to move forward with the aquatic/curling centre is a huge plus for our town.

Cochrane is already a community of choice, and last week’s decision by council to move forward with the aquatic/curling centre is a huge plus for our town.

It is a facility that will provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy for many years into the future.

We are now finalizing all the details with our partners at Rocky View County so that we can break ground in the spring of next year.

This project has been the number one requested facility in our community since my first time on council over 13 years ago. Although it has taken many years and a lot of planning to get us to this point, I am very proud of this council’s direction to move ahead.

On another note, I was in Edmonton last week at the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association (AUMA) conference and had two opportunities to meet with the Minister of Transportation.

They were very productive meetings — we have a commitment from the department to re-evaluate the Highway 1A and 22 intersection on its priority list. There will also be consideration of a better design that would sustain us for many years into the future.

We also have a commitment from Alberta Transportation to have monthly meetings with town administration so that we may better deal with the issues as they arise through the process.
