Ah, what a Mother’s Day that was last weekend – just ask two trees that participated in the celebration!

It's not a secret that almost no one actually likes campaign signs.

Arriving at Cochrane Coffee Traders the other day, I was impressed with how many bicycles were on the rack outside the shop. Yes indeed, it is the season for cycling again, and that’s the inspiration for this week’s column.

From May 11 onward, our website will once again be called CochraneEagle.ca, and so will our social media channels. 

Remarkably, a few news reports have indicated that some people in the impacted areas have chosen not to listen to mandatory evacuation orders. This is not only a foolish decision, but it also may put firefighters at risk in the event they need to rescue these people later. We hope people who are wilfully ignoring evacuation orders can think not only of themselves in these instances. 

The number 83 was haunting me the other day. One of the reasons was obvious – more about that in a minute. But there was another, totally unexpected reason that punctuated the matter.

Dear editor, Alberta as a democratic capitalist province has multiple tax-free and avoidance financial schemes that benefit the wealthy, married, families, parliamentarians (since they create the formulas) and corporations.  Lower income persons are always the financial losers.

Elections are high stakes, but also grand political theatre. Hopefully, a better future will emerge for Alberta from the rubble, dust, and ashes when the election is finally complete.
