Firearms and $40,000 worth of cocaine seized in search of Dewberry and Edmonton homes

A total of 15 firearms and a large amount of cocaine were seized after police searched a home in Edmonton and a home in Dewberry, earlier this month.

A total of 15 firearms and a large amount of cocaine were seized after police searched a home in Edmonton and a home in Dewberry, which is located about 80 kilometres southeast of St. Paul and 70 kilometres northwest of Lloydminster.

According to information from ALERT (Alberta Law Enforcement Response Team), on Feb. 7, Lloydminster’s organized crime team also searched four vehicles as part of the investigation, along with the two houses. ALERT received assistance from Lloydminster RCMP, Kitscoty RCMP, and the Edmonton Police Service.

Suspects were allegedly based in Dewberry and were believed to be selling drugs in the Lloydminster area, according to ALERT.   "As result of the search warrant executions, ALERT seized 15 firearms, roughly $40,000 worth of cocaine, and $2,285 cash. Of the firearms seized, three were handguns and one was a prohibited rifle," according to information from ALERT. "Further firearms ballistics testing and analysis is being completed by the Provincial Firearms Solutions Lab."

The investigation began in November 2023, after ALERT received information about suspected drug trafficking.   “Regardless of where criminals set up operations, whether it be the big cities or smallest towns, our ALERT teams have remained diligent in disrupting their criminal networks and keeping drugs and guns off the street,” said Sgt. Bruce MacLean, with ALERT Lloydminster.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity can call local police, or contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous.   Jason Brennan, 38, was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and possession of proceeds of crime. He was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court on April 4.   Wayne Wong, 39, was charged with possession of drugs for the purpose of trafficking and several firearms offences. He was also released from custody and has a court date of April 4. screenshot-2024-02-29-at-100259-am
