Located: Stolen truck involved in Highway 2 hit-and-run near Okotoks

A stolen truck linked to a hit-and-run to an RCMP cruiser north of Okotoks has been located, but the driver, believed to be in possession of a firearm, has not been located.

A stolen vehicle that was involved in a hit-and-run this afternoon north of Okotoks has been recovered, but the driver has not been located.

On Nov. 2, an RCMP cruiser was rammed by a pick-up truck during an attempted traffic stop on northbound Highway 2.

RCMP said the pick-up initially struck the police cruiser before speeding off towards Calgary at a high rate of speed.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) became involved as officers attempted to locate the vehicle.

CPS said in a statement that the truck was located outside of city limits and confirmed that the truck is connected to the earlier hit-and-run.

“We were called to assist another agency in locating a stolen vehicle believed to have travelled to Calgary from south of the city,” Calgary Police said.

The vehicle, a blue 2002 GMC Sierra, was driving erratically and the driver was believed to be in possession of a handgun.

Calgary Police say the suspect who was driving the stolen truck remains at large.

More information will be provided if it becomes available.
