Edmonton-based CKUA’s cash reserves are depleted and they are counting on donors to help keep the radio station on air.

Like many others in the media, the Alberta-based station faces numerous challenges including operating without government funding.

It has traditionally operated using many income streams including listener donations, advertising and rental revenue from the building it owns, Alberta Hotel. However, revenue dropped dramatically after their main tenant became insolvent.

Governments have been slow to support the arts since the pandemic, and inflationary pressures are quickly eating away at reserves.

To combat these issue, CKUA is launching their annual Spring On-Air fundraising campaign. It starts Friday, April 19 and lasts 10 days.

The goal is to reach the first $775,000 towards their $3 million goal. Visit CKUA.com for more information.
