Serious MVC near Balzac results in death of Airdrie man

Update The Airdrie Rural RCMP is confirming that a 50-year-old Airdrie man was killed in a motor vehicle collision near Balzac on Wednesday.

Accident scene on Highway 566 on Wednesday afternoon after a collision between a motorcycle and a pick-up truck. Police confirm the motorcyclist died in the accident.

The Airdrie Rural RCMP is confirming that a 50-year-old Airdrie man was killed in a motor vehicle collision near Balzac on Wednesday. 

According to police, the man's motorcycle was travelling Westbound on Highway 566 when it passed a number of vehicles before colliding with another Westbound truck that was turning south at Range Road 11. The motorcyclist was pronounced deceased on scene. The driver and lone occupant of the truck did not sustain physical injuries.

Speed is believed to be a factor in this collision.

The Airdrie Rural RCMP and local emergency services responded to the scene of a serious motor vehicle collision on Highway 566, between Range Road 11 and 12, just west of Balzac. The accident occurred at about 3 p.m. in the afternoon and stopped traffic on Highway 566. Smoke from the collision could be seen from miles away.

The Airdrie Rural RCMP has confirmed the collision was between a motorcycle and a pick-up truck. There is no word yet on the condition of either driver.
