UPDATE: Snowfall warning ended for Canmore, Kananaskis, MD Bighorn

A snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada has ended for Canmore, Kananaskis Country and the Municipal District of Bighorn.

BOW VALLEY – A snowfall warning issued by Environment Canada has ended for Canmore, Kananaskis Country and the Municipal District of Bighorn.

Environment Canada reported 7 to 10 centimetres of snow Monday night (Feb. 12) with light snowfall expected throughout the day.

"An update within the last hour is that the snowfall warning ended for the Canmore and Kananaskis area with only some light snow expected throughout the day in that region," said Justin Shelley, meteorologist with Environment Canada.

The warning, however, continues for, Crownest Pass, Pincher Creek, Waterton Lakes National Park, Fort Macloed, Mcgrath and Cardston.

"The snowfall warning is continued for areas farther south towards Pincher Creek, Crowsnest Pass, Waterton Park regions with an additional five centimetres or so expected throughout the day," said Shelley.

Overnight snowfall reports from volunteers and social media to Environment Canada recorded Kananaskis Village accumulating about 5 cm, Exshaw with 8 cm and Banff with 3 cm. Further south, Pincher Creek received about 10 cm and Waterton Lakes National Park saw around 15 cm.

"It looks like right now that the worst of the snow has passed, but for that southwestern extreme of the province, possibly another five centimetres before all is said and done later on this afternoon or early evening," said Shelley.

Shelley said that temperatures will increase towards Friday with some daytime periods possibly reaching above zero degrees going into the weekend.

"If you are travelling in these areas which experienced the snowfall or this continued snowfall, just make sure you take a bit of extra time out there for travelling as the conditions might be poor in some areas and visibility could be reduced suddenly at times," said Shelley.

Hwy's in the vicinity of Calgary and southwest Alberta are snow covered, snowing, with poor visibility. Drive with caution in the area and give snow plows room to work. (6:57am) #ABRoads #yyctraffic pic.twitter.com/Uj8ni8VnQ0
