Trio nabbed in Olds RCMP drug, firearm bust

Drugs, guns, contraband tobacco and stolen property were all seized in an RCMP raid in Central Alberta last week

A trio of Central Alberta residents are facing multiple drug and firearms offences following a huge search warrant bust east of Olds last week.

In a media release issued on April 8, RCMP Cpl. Gina Slaney said on March 19 Olds RCMP received information from the public that a rural property located within Mountain View County was being used as a base of operations to sell drugs and house stolen property and firearms.

After an investigation, a search warrant was obtained for the residence, said Slaney.

She said on April 3, the RCMP’s north and south Emergency Response Teams, along with Olds RCMP, executed the search warrant and the following items were seized:

• 200 grams of suspected cocaine;

• two grams of suspected amphetamine;

• 250 Gabapentin pills;

• eight cartons of contraband cigarettes;

• seven firearms and 200 rounds of ammunition;

• one stolen Dodge Ram 2500; and

• two stolen utility trailers.
 
Slaney said Michael Goodine, 47, a resident of Mountain View County, was charged with the following:

• Two counts of careless use of firearm;

• three counts of possessing a firearm without a licence;

• possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose;

• two counts of possession of a controlled substance for the purpose of trafficking;

• two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000;

• three counts of possession of a weapon while prohibited; and

• possession of contraband tobacco for the purpose of selling.
 
She said Kevin Leischner, 52, a resident of Mountain View County, was also charged with the following:

• careless use of firearm,

• possess a firearm without a licence,

• two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000; and

• possession of contraband tobacco for the purpose of selling.

As well, Slaney said Donna Faulkner, 42, a resident of Mountain View County, was charged with the following:

• careless use of firearm;

• possessing a firearm without a licence;

• two counts of possession of stolen property over $5,000; and

• possession of contraband tobacco for the purpose of selling.

After judicial interim release hearings, Slaney said Goodine and Leischner were remanded into custody.

She said Goodine was to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on April 5 and Leischner on April 8 in Okotoks.

Slaney said Faulkner was released to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Didsbury on April 29.
