Check out Medieval Day on July 23

The Real Knights from Ironhart Vanguard practice their fighting skill at the Cochrane Street Market in Historic Downtown last Thursday. The three knights are preparing for the Medieval Day, hosted by the Cochrane Nan Boothby Memorial Library on July 23.

Join the Nan Boothby Memorial Library for its first Medieval Day on July 23.

The event will take place at the public library, located at 405 Railway Street West, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. There is no admission for the event.

Attendees can get into the medieval spirit by taking in live demonstrations by the Real Knights from Ironhart Vanguard. The knights don real armour and fight in one-on-one combat against opponents from The Forge Western Martial Arts.

The event will also feature a bouncy castle sponsored by Royal Mechanical Services, a craft table, a Lego castle building competition, a story-time booth, a puppet show, extreme chess, a photo booth sponsored by Winter Photographics and more.

The Town of Cochrane Fun Van will also be in attendance. Lining the library will be booths from multiple vendors including Butterfield Acres Petting Farm sponsored by Friends of the Nan, The Sons of Fenrir whom portray Scandinavian Vikings, spinning wheels demonstrators, Howling Winds Forge metalworkers, and felt fabric demonstrators.

Attendees can enjoy delicious food at the event from local food trucks. People are encouraged to wear medieval costumes and participate in the costume contest at 3:00 p.m.

Royalty will be in attendance thanks to Mayor Ivan Brooker and his wife, Tracy Brooker, who will be playing the part of King and Queen at the event and judging the costume contest.

Live entertainment will be provided by the Calgary Renaissance Singers, a recorder artists, volunteers performing skits, and a piper with Cochrane Pipe Band. Mr. P. Potty will also be providing a free washroom stand for the event.

Parking for the event will be located at 544 Railway Street West courtesy of Crossfit Cochrane.
