Cochrane celebrates culture for all ages this weekend

Culture Days is one of the most entertaining events of the season – but organizers say it means so much more to Cochrane than just a few days of art-focused fun.

“It brings the community together. We inspire each other,” Michelle Boudreau of the Arts and Culture Foundation Cochrane (ACFC) said this week. “That’s what art is. It’s meant to be there as an inspiration.”

The activity and artisan-packed weekend kicks off Thursday evening with three distinct performances at the Cochrane Ranchehouse Theatre. Friday celebrates the community’s children with a youth art show, gymnastics activities and a fall music showcase at the Cochrane Boys and Girls Club.

Saturday is stuffed with culture and art, from painting and beading demonstrations to a musical hootenanny at Heritage House Coffee Company, while Sunday focuses on an artisan market and concerts at Centennial Plaza, as well as street art at the Cochrane Youth Park skate facility.

The complete Culture Days schedule can be found at www.artscochrane.ca/arts-days.

Boudreau said she’s amazed by the level of talent this town has to offer – and she’s proud that Culture Days is such an engaging platform to show it all off.

“Not only does Cochrane have a huge contingency of local artists, but we have a community that supports the art,” she said. “We get to see all the fine point of our arts and culture.”
