Concert to raise funds for baby's treatment

St. Andrew’s United Church is hosting an afternoon of “sweets and beats” to help a Cochrane mother deal financially with her daughter’s hospital stays – and emotionally with the difficulty of having a sick child.

St. Andrew’s United Church is hosting an afternoon of “sweets and beats” to help a Cochrane mother deal financially with her daughter’s hospital stays – and emotionally with the difficulty of having a sick child.

Seven-month-old Aspen Taylor was recently diagnosed with type 1 spinal muscular atrophy. According to the organization Cure SMA, the genetic degenerative disease causes a baby to have difficulty breathing and swallowing, as well as “debilitating and often fatal muscle weakness.” Many children don’t survive past toddler age.

The Rhythm for Aspens Roots event takes place Sunday, Oct. 23 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. at St. Andrew’s United Church. Tickets are $10 and are available at the door or through .
