The misguided main character in this month’s offering by the Chinook Film Group is a source of both sympathy and inspiration.

Marguerite is inspired by the life of American socialite Florence Foster Jenkins and follows the story of an aging baroness misguided by her level of operatic talent.

Catherine Frot stars as Marguerite Dumont, the “most talked about opera singer in Paris,” who earns the moniker because of the fact she can’t sing. The film was an official selection at both the Venice and Telluride film festivals and earned an impressive 11 nominations at the 2016 César Awards – France’s equivalent of the Oscars.

The Chinook group considers the tragicomic film the “oddball of the season.”

Tickets for the Nov. 23 screening at the Cochrane Movie House are available for $10 at Tea… And Other Things and The Gentry Espresso and Wine Bar. The movie begins at 7 p.m.
