Get ready to head back in time at the second annual Bragg Creek Heritage Festival next weekend.

Bragg Creek will be transformed for two days with sights and sounds that made the hamlet come alive in the 1800s.

“Last year was a success, we had quite a few people come down and now we are building on that success to make it bigger and more interactive,” said Lee Onslow, festival organizer.

The two-day festival will host a variety of family-friendly activities including living theatre guided walks around the hamlet, silent movie showings, and historical displays.

The festival was initiated last year as a way to reconnect people to the past.

“We had very positive feedback from the first festival, people loved it,” Onslow said.

“If people come out they can expect to have well-organized historical activities.”

All afternoon activities for the event will be free for guests, thanks to the committee of volunteers who organize the two-day festival.

“Everything is completely organized by volunteers and although there is not a very large cost, we do print out postcard invites, signage and pay for the band to play,” Onslow explained.

Organizers said after the first festival, they learned to have better signage and communication with people who attend.

“We want to have a bigger more encompassing festival – it is growing and getting its roots,” Onslow said.

There will also be a night of entertainment on the Saturday at the Snowbirds Chalet with entertainment, Moments Notice, a six-piece swing band.

“I am really excited, it is a very intimate venue with a gorgeous building – the band is well-suited to the building,” Onslow said.

Doors for the concert will open at 7 p.m. Beer and wine will be for sale with a late night snack available. Funds from ticket sales will go towards the cost of next year’s Heritage festival.

The Bragg Creek Heritage Festival will be hosted in the hamlet on Sept. 24 and 25 from noon to 4 p.m.
