Not even a heart attack could slow down legendary country music star Ian Tyson – he’ll be back in Cochrane on May 6.

“I had a heart operation this year so that put a crimp in the whole deal for a while and you know I was convalescing but I’m a lot better and I’m very fortunate to get through it,” Tyson explained.

At 81 years old, the Longview rancher has 70 years of performing experience under his belt.

“I started performing in 1946 and I’ve been going ever since.”

Tyson has garnered numerous accolades over the years for his many albums and said his Cochrane fans are in for a great show when he comes to town.

“I’m going to perform a lot of my old stuff, a lot of the hits from the ’90s and the ’80s, and I’ll do some new ones too,” Tyson explained.

“I’ve got my same musicians coming on with me – I probably wouldn’t have even gone on this tour if I hadn’t had my regular guys. One of them is down in Nashville and one is out on the West Coast but they’re coming with me and they’re anxious to start playing again. So we’ve got that enthusiasm and I think we’ll sound pretty good.”

Quoted on his website for saying your “80s are no time for sissies” Tyson plans to “pace himself” since he’s still on the mend from his surgery in November 2015.

“You have to pace yourself, you don’t want to mess with that kind of thing or you end up on the wrong side of the grass. But I feel pretty good, this is my first show since my surgery,” Tyson explained.

Performing at the Cochrane Alliance Church, Tyson is confident the concert will be one to remember and invites all country music fans to attend and bring your energy and support.

“I don’t think a little thing like a heart attack is going to change my show very much.”
