A newly- formed Cochrane band promises to funk up the festive season at its upcoming concert.

“We've jazzed up a whole load of Christmas songs, ” Lucy Mills, the lead singer of Jazz It, said this week.

Although Mills has been singing and performing since the 1960s, her new band - a collection of Cochrane and area musicians - just formed a couple of months ago.

Mills originally put together the group of friends and talented colleagues for Canadian Music Week.

Since then, they've come together for a good handful of gigs, and are now getting ready to showcase a merry night of music at The Hideout Pub on Dec. 17.

Mills said the music Jazz It makes is in the style of Ella Fitzgerald and other jazz greats. In the spirit of the season, the band will perform jazzy Jingle Bells, along with holiday renditions of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, I'll Be Home For Christmas a slow and soulful version of Silent Night.

Tickets are $10 and are available at The Hideout Pub.
