New Cochrane author Olivia Dawson is about to debut her historical e-book, published through Draft2Digital … the story of the book is called Eunuch’s Daughter, which is a 100,000 word novel based on the life of Queen Esther of Persia in 5th century B.C., whose courage still inspires people 2,500 years later to take impossible risks.

The book will be released Nov. 11, and there will be a book launch in the middle of November, although the date and location has yet to be finalized, where Dawson will be reading an excerpt from Eunuch’s Daughter.

Dawson said she had been interested in writing since she was young, but finally decided she needed to publish her novel.

“Growing up, I was surrounded by a family who inhaled books and cigarette smoke. I chose books. In my pre-teen years, I banged out a one-pager on my mom’s typewriter, which was called Die Monster Die. I must have written stories in school, I don’t really remember them, but I did tell some whoppers to my family,” Dawson said.

“As an adult, I wrote plays and presentations for amateur productions. When I reached my 40s, the stories became book length. Eunuch’s Daughter is my third novel, but the first one I decided to publish. The other two were like the first pancake you cook on a grill … nobody usually eats it, but you use it to determine the right griddle temperature and batter consistency, so the rest is more suitable for consumption.”

Dawson also said she had a few things she wanted to take away from this experience of publishing her first novel.

“I wanted to learn enough from the publishing process to encourage myself to keep working on the two dozen or so stories I have simmering on the back burner… more importantly I want to gain exposure and connect with readers. My greatest wish as an author is to craft stories that delight people in the same way that I, as a reader, yearn to be delighted,” Dawson said.

“It tickles me when something I’ve written resonates in another person’s mind and heart. I love valuable feedback from my fans because it helps me know how well I’ve succeeded at giving you an enjoyable emotional experience … I love to discover who exactly reads and appreciates my work. It’s that essential, personal connection element again.”
