Legacy Guitar House is hosting Oscar Lopez for a Feb. 20 show at Frank Wills Memorial Hall in Cochrane.

Born in Santiago, Chile, Lopez was encouraged by his father to play the violin and the mandolin, influencing his signature rhythmic playing style. He now considers the nylon-string guitar as his “soul ” instrument.

Lopez moved to Canada in 1979 and calls Calgary home. His Latin guitar groove makes him a standout on the world music stage.

“My roots are here but all that I am I owe to my mother country; she has made me who I am today, ” he shares on his website.

Lopez's rhythms, guitar mastery and improvisational wit are bound to get you up and dancing. Speaking of which, the guitar virtuoso has shared the stage with dancers from Alberta Ballet and accomplished musical outfits like the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra and the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra.

A two-time JUNO Award winner and multi-nominee, Lopez continues to surprise and engage. An independent artist, Lopez's latest release is Apasionado.

“I'm playing my best ever, ” he exclaims.

Legacy Guitar House presents Oscar Lopez on Feb. 20 at Frank Wills Memorial Hall, 405 First St. East, Cochrane. Show starts at 8 p.m.
