Seasonal book sets the tone

The holidays are definitely one of my favourite times of the year. So, it should be no surprise that every year I search out a feel good, Christmas-themed read. Karen Swan’s Christmas on Primrose Hill was perfect.

The holidays are definitely one of my favourite times of the year. So, it should be no surprise that every year I search out a feel good, Christmas-themed read.

Karen Swan’s Christmas on Primrose Hill was perfect.

This book is by no means challenging or especially literary but, seriously, who wants a complex book over the holidays?

This book was all fluff and a lovely escape from the holiday busy-ness and I looked forward to cozying up with it and a glass of wine at night’s end and losing myself.

Christmas on Primrose Hill introduces us to Nettie Watson who becomes an internet sensation after accidently taking a ridiculous fall in a blue bunny suit that she wears as part of her job with a charity organization.

She and her work colleagues come up with a wonderful idea. Nettie will perform a series of challenges and post them to Twitter to raise money.

Under the spotlight of the world’s media, Nettie is unexpectedly caught up in a 21st century storm. Her exploits have made “Blue Bunny Girl” a global name and attracted the attention of one of the world’s most eligible men – rock-and-roll front man, Jamie Westlake.

But, now that she has his attention, does she really want it?

To be honest, Nettie doesn’t want presents, media and parties. For her, Christmas only serves as a stark reminder of the life she used to have, of what she has lost.

She made a promise to never leave home, and so far she has kept her word, no matter the consequences.

As with any Shakespearian play, this story has a second act full of ups and downs, tumultuous decisions and just when you think it’s all going to fall apart the third act begins.

Will she get the boy? Will she break her promise? Will she lose her best friend? Will her only Christmas wish be fulfilled?

All of this drama happens amongst the twinkling lights of London as Christmas nears.

I would recommend this book if you are looking for an easy holiday read. It is romantic, spellbinding and emotional. Basically, it is what it is, a fun read. I give Christmas on Primrose Hill a 2.7/5.
