DEC. 8 – DEC. 10 Waiting for Godot Cochrane High School 7 p.m. Youth drama students will mount this Samuel Beckett classic for three nights, beginning on Dec. 8. The “tragicomedy in two acts” will run at the Cochrane High Lyceum until Dec. 10.

Martin Parnell Book Launch

Marathon Man Martin Parnell launches his second book, Running to the Edge. Hear athlete and current library writer-in-residence read from his newest publication and discuss his latest adventures. Free; cake served.

Frozen Christmas Party

Frank Wills Memorial Hall

1 – 3 p.m.

Elsa, Anna, Olaf and Santa mix and mingle with kids, along with crafts and games at this family-friendly event. Tickets are $35 at wishimayparties.com/shop.

Community Day

Townhall Public House

3 – 6 p.m.

The Sunset Ridge eatery celebrates its 4th Annual Community Day, where restaurants across the chain open their doors to raise money for a local charity. This year, $20 gets patrons a signature burger and house lager, along with music, games and auction prices. All proceeds collected go to Bear Valley Rescue.

Santa Claus Community Visits

Cochrane Neighbourhoods

6 – 8 p.m.

Jolly Ol’ St. Nick is coming to Cochrane! Santa Claus and his sleigh will stop by more than a dozen communities during the evenings to visit with children, take photos and more. Visits are free. See http://www.cochranesantaclaus.ca/ for a full list of Santa’s locations and dates.

Holiday Movie Week

Boys and Girls Club

4 - 6 p.m.

Youth ages 13-17 can relax and watch a different holiday movie every afternoon during this festive film week. Hot chocolate will also be served. Free.

Christmas Concert

Bow Valley High School

7 p.m.

The annual musical concert delights with five different youth ensembles and featured during the evening. Admission is free, with baked goods available to purchase. Donations to the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank are also being collected.

Music of Christmas

Cochrane High School Lyceum

7:30 p.m.

Choral Waves, Riverside Jazz and Band on the Bow take the stage for the Cochrane Music Society’s annual holiday performance. Classical to contemporary music will be featured. Free admission.

Bow Valley Drama Showcase

RancheHouse Theatre

7 p.m.

Bow Valley High School

drama students will showcase their voice, movement, stage fighting, improv and more at this celebration of creativity. Free admission.

Christmas Concert

Cochrane Christian Academy

6:30 p.m.

Students from Cochrane Christian Academy will entertain families with their annual holiday evening. The theme of this year’s concert is “We’re on the Air!” Free.

Learning Lab Launch Party

Nan Boothby Mem’l Library

1 – 3 p.m.

Cochrane’s public library reveals its brand-new tech lab, filled with laptop computers, a podcasting studio, scrapbooking tools, green screen technology, and more – designed to encourage creativity and exploration. Admission is free and treats will be served.

Mitford Band Concert

Mitford School

7 p.m.

For the first time, Grades 6, 7 and 8 students from Cochrane Christian Academy, RancheView and Mitford schools will perform holiday music together as a group. Students are also selling baked goods as a fundraiser, and food bank donations will be collected at the door. Free.

DEC. 17

Solstice Celebration

Green Lotus Yoga

5-7 p.m.

Green Lotus Yoga celebrates the solstice with yin yoga set to the music of a didgeridoo. There will also be a group chant.

Woodley

The Gentry

6:30 p.m.

This celebrated Canadian singing duo’s catchy melodies combined with strong, emotional vocals make this concert a can’t-miss holiday evening. Limited reserved seats for $15, or general admission tickets for $10.
