Angelo Kere delivers a powerful performance as the Wicked Sherriff of the West in St. Timothy’s School’s production All Hood Things. The play is a sequel the school’s past production Fractured and will be performed at the school on May 12 and 13.

St. Timothy’s School will be presenting the production All Hood Things on May 12 and 13.

“It’s technically a sequel to a show that was put on two years ago, Fractured, and this is a retelling of Little Red Riding Hood, but also we have some elements of Beauty and the Beast, The Wizard of Oz, and lots of other things, ” explained Taylor Osiowy, volunteer assistant director with the production and school alumna.

Described as a steampunk western, the production was written and created by St. Tim’s students ranging from Grade 7 to Grade 12.

“Because we have generally such a small basis of kids, we look at who have been in our plays before and who is coming back and look at, how can we write a show that will show the strengths of everyone that we have and that’s very important, ” Osiowy explained.

“This production is basically a mix of fairytales … It tells the story of Red and her trip through the Land of Oz. She meets the Wicked Sherriff of the West and they have their battles together as arch enemies, ” Osiowy said.

The production started auditions at the beginning of the school year and allows all students to audition. Rehearsals then start in November after school, beginning weekly then ramping up as they get closer to the performance dates.

“There’s about 20 actors and I think we have about 10 to 15 stage crew … A lot of these kids have been in these plays for years now, ” Osiowy explained.

The audience doesn’t have to be familiar with Fractured to understand All Hood Things. The production makes many pop culture references and is suitable for all ages.

“There’s a lot of intense and deep characters that these kids have created themselves, we just gave them the stuff and they ran with it, ” Osiowy said.

For Angelo Kere, the Grade 12 student playing the Wicked Sherriff of the West, creating the character was his bread and butter.

“I’m really good at playing villains, as seen from my wolf character back in Grade 10 in the original Fractured production. The Sherriff is a really nice villain in that he treats his minions nicely. But he’s an overall evil villain - he gets outbursts but he’s just a creepy kind of character, ” Kere explained.

Kere has loved working with all his peers on this production and can’t wait to perform it for the community.

“It has been such an amazing experience - seeing everyone work together to build this amazing production is such an amazing thing to see, ” Kere said.

“Coming back here after college, I realize how talented these kids are. There is so much talent in this school and it’s fantastic to see, ” Osiowy said.

Osiowy thinks the community will really enjoy the school’s newest production.

“It’s a brand-new story, it’s a wonderful fairytale that no one has really heard before - and that’s what we’re going for. So you don’t have to know the show by any means to come and see it, you’ll enjoy it no matter what, ” Osiowy said.

Tickets for the productions are $10 each and can be purchased in advance at the school office or at the door. The doors will open at 6:30 p.m. with the show starting at 7:00 p.m. both nights.
