People’s health and wellness needs evolve as their lives grow and change, and that’s why organizers of Cochrane’s Community Wellness Fair say the upcoming event is worthwhile to attend every year.

“Even if you’ve lived here 20 years, there’s always new things,” Candy Wiesner, Cochrane’s Family & Community Support Services (FCSS) programmer, said this week. “You might be looking at different areas of wellness in your life. There’s always a value.”

The annual exhibition, taking place at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre on Sat. Oct. 22 from 10 to 2 p.m., started out more than a decade ago as strictly health-focused. Today, it has morphed into a combination of information for newcomers, as well as exhibits centered on active, healthy and positive living.

“We have everything from the bowling alley to early childhood education to community helpers program to essential oils,” Wiesner said.

Youth can take part in a Boys and Girls Club treasure hunt, using clues to send them to the many different booths set up around the running track. Wiesner joked that even walking around the track is a healthy choice in itself.

“There’s a wellness component build right into it,” she said with a laugh.

Free Bird Adventures is offering a free shuttle to the fair for teens, seniors and anyone else who may not be able to get to Spray Lakes by car – as well as others who may want to simply avoid congestion in the parking lot.

Admission is free; however, people are encouraged to bring a donation for the Cochrane Activettes food bank. The current need is greatest for canned stew or chili, canned ham, rice, oatmeal, coffee and tea.
