Wet your whistles and tempt your taste buds – the upcoming Taste of Cochrane is expected to be a belly-busting afternoon.

Wet your whistles and tempt your taste buds – the upcoming Taste of Cochrane is expected to be a belly-busting afternoon.

For $20, foodies can experience a sampling of flavours from as many as 20 eateries and hospitality establishments as part of the annual culinary celebration, said Big Hill Pizza and Hideout Pub owner Ron Knowles.

“Cochrane’s grown so much. There are so many new choices and so many new places,” he said, adding the event features primarily locally-owned eateries. “We have some exciting things that we’ve added each year.”

Cochrane’s tasting tour – which takes place Oct. 15 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. – is different than those in other towns in cities in that participants travel to each place directly, instead of wandering around a big, cavernous hall. Knowles said the set-up allows participants to get up close and personal with each restaurant they visit.

“We want them to come into our places, see what we offer and see what we have going on,” he said.

Restaurants signed on so far include the Sochi Grill, Mehtab East Indian Cuisine, Big Hill Pizza and Hideout Pub, Twisted Basil, Vinestone Wine Co., Joe’s Liquor, Tea/Books … and other Things, Heritage House Coffee Co., Bergeron Cheese, The Boot and more. Knowles said the Broken Smoke food truck, which roasts pigs, chicken and beef on site, is a new addition this year as well.

Tickets are available at Big Hill Pizza, Mehtab, Bergeron Cheese and Tea/Books … and other Things. Food lovers can choose to walk and drive to the different vendors, or for those who would rather ride, Southland provides a shuttle bus to restaurants in various areas of town.
