5-5 Smell good

If it smells good, it is a comfort, and if it smells bad, worry! So naturally, the home should smell clean, safe and welcoming. Here are 10 ways to make every part of your home smell amazing.

Clean the bad smells out

Funky smells in the home come from pet areas, shoe closets, the garbage disposal and trash, the fridge and the bathroom. The bad smells get absorbed into the wood and into the fabrics and carpets. Clean regularly and deep clean seasonally to help prevent unwanted smells.

1) Put ice cubes and citrus peels into the garbage disposal. The citrus smells good and it has natural, deodorizing oils and the abrasiveness of the ice cubes will clean the blades of the disposal.

2) Sprinkle baking soda on carpets, rugs and flooring and let it sit for 15 minutes for a natural odour absorption. Here are other tips to freshen up the carpets.

3) Put natural deodorizers in small dishes in the refrigerator. A bowl of coffee beans, or some vanilla extract or citrus essential oil on a cotton ball will freshen up the air in the fridge.

Bring in new smells

Completely change the way the house smells by changing the way scents that are in the air. Cooking smells are an easy way to fill the air with a reminder of pleasant times.

4) Bake cinnamon sticks at a low temperature for an hour in the oven. Alternatively, put a couple of teaspoons of vanilla extract in an oven safe cup in the oven and bake at 300 for an hour.

5) Bake cookies. The home will smell warm and welcoming, and afterwards, you will have cookies!

6) Stove top potpourri can simmer away on your stove for hours and smell amazing. Here are three great recipes that you can make easily.

Move the air around

Air that is still holds its odour. When the weather allows, open a window and let bad air out and the good air in.

7) Light candles. Beeswax candles are a natural odour absorber and an air purifier. Bringing them into the home gives a natural, comforting scent.

8) Use a fan. A fan will move the air and can change the smell too. Tie a dryer sheet to the fan or add an air freshener to the room. Dryer sheets are useful in ways you may never have considered before!

9) Put a few drops of your favorite essential oil on to the air filter on heating and cooling system in the home. The scent will spread through the home.

Don’t forget the bathroom!

10) Bathrooms don’t smell good. Instead of air fresheners and in addition to fans, try hanging eucalyptus leaves from the shower head. It looks pretty and when the bathroom steams up, the oils in the eucalyptus will release their scents through the house.
