Historic roots are important

It was with great sadness that I read your article about the “rebranding” of the Nan Boothby Memorial Library.

It was with great sadness that I read your article about the “rebranding” of the Nan Boothby Memorial Library.

As a so-called “newcomer” to Cochrane, I resent and dispute the insinuation made by the library director Jeri Maitland that those new to Cochrane don’t call the library “The Nan” or care about its history. I do.

One of the reasons I moved to Cochrane was because I loved the idea of living in a town where the library has a nickname and the institutions represent their historical roots. I don’t want to live in another generic Calgary suburb. I want to live in Cochrane, where the library bears the name of the woman who devoted her heart and soul to it.
