Dear Editor:

Spray Lake Sawmills (SLS) has recently had a few inquiries related to our increasing manufacturing activities and we would like to provide the following response.

At SLS we are committed to continuous improvement in everything we do and this is one of the core values of our business. Whether that involves safety, our woodlands operations, our manufacturing process, our product quality or through community support, we strive to get better each day. Feedback, both negative and positive is an important part of the improvement process and is a reminder that we still have work to do.

We have been operating in Cochrane for more than 40 years, and over the last several years have managed to survive some very difficult times. We are very thankful for the many top notch people who have chosen to make SLS their career choice.

We are now returning to our normal hours of operation and will be providing jobs for approximately 220 full-time employees and, combined with our contractors, will be generating approximately 300 direct jobs by the end of 2013.

We have enjoyed a great relationship with our community over the years. There have been occasions where people have come to us with concerns and we have, through open dialogue, been able to resolve specific issues. Should our neighbours have specific noise concerns, we would like to hear from them and we will do our best to address the matter. You can contact our office at 403-932-2234 or call my direct line at 403-851-3306 and I will respond to every call.

Howard Pruden, safety and human resource coordinator, Spray Lake Sawmills
