Reader concerned by motives behind Cochrane High's wind turbine project

Dear Editor: I do not live anywhere near Cochrane Heights, but as I read about Stephanie Bennett's crusade to get a wind turbine erected at Cochrane High School, I wonder about her motives.

Dear Editor:

I do not live anywhere near Cochrane Heights, but as I read about Stephanie Bennett's crusade to get a wind turbine erected at Cochrane High School, I wonder about her motives.

Given that her students have obviously done a great deal of research and by now have already learned all they can learn about the topic, and given that this wind turbine will produce an insignificant amount of power, it seems a purely symbolic exercise.

It's one thing to teach the kids to "persevere and overcome" obstacles, but when those obstacles are the legitimate concerns of residents who aren't crazy about a large piece of ugly industrial equipment being erected in their neighbourhood, I think Ms. Bennett would do better to teach the kids that sometimes showing a bit of consideration toward your neighbours is just as important as embracing sustainability.
