Dear editor:

Once each year, the Parkinson Alberta Society undertakes a province-wide fundraising ‘Step ‘n Stride’ walk in an effort to support research and client care for the thousands of Alberta families (many in the Cochrane area) affected by Parkinson’s disease.

Our 2014 Cochrane 5km walk takes place Sept. 7, beginning at 1 p.m. and follows the same trail as in previous years, from the Cochrane Ranche parking lot (Hwy 1A), along the creek to the Bow River and return. Once completed, all supporters will be treated to a barbecue and some live entertainment. Our Cochrane & District Parkinson Support Group encourages folks to get involved by sponsorship of a ‘walker’ or by initiating pledges on your own.

Although a cure for this disease has still eluded us, there are some positive research results beginning to unfold. As many know, the Michael J. Fox Foundation has assisted in worldwide attention to Parkinson’s disease, which can strike both young and older folks.

We certainly need all the help we can get. If you have any questions or if you desire pledge forms, please do not hesitate to contact me directly at 403-932-5654.
