Technology sadly closes another door

Dear editor:

In reading this week’s Eagle, my heart sunk in when I noticed that Video Experts is soon to be closing its doors.

I am disheartened by its closure because my family and I have faithfully been renting there for years. It’s become a tradition to run to the movie store on a Friday night, argue about which movie to rent and sit together as a family and watch it.

I love renting from the movie store because the staff are always so helpful with big smiles on their faces.

Where are we supposed to go to rent a movie that is older and not sold in Wal-Mart or found on Netflix? It’s a pity that virtually everything has to be accessed through technological means these days (not to mention that most online movies are there illegally).

I wish that a town this size could support a small business that has been diligently offering us a great service for over 23 years. I feel for those out there who don’t have access to computers or satellite television.

As much as technology has been helpful in advancing society, it has numerous repercussions as well — ones that I am starting to feel the impacts of at my young age.

I recommend everyone head over to Video Experts to pick up their favourite movie, because it may be the last time you are able to find it in the physical form.

Thank you Video Experts for keeping Cochrane entertained all these years. I’m sure many will miss you, along with my family and myself.
