Think you have what it takes to become the next Stampede Queen or Princess? Well, Giddy up and get your application in as the 2020 contest will close Aug. 23.

The Calgary Stampede is searching for its next trio of ambassadors. These young ladies will showcase horsemanship, personality and the competence to communicate amongst all kinds of individuals. During the month of September, applicants will be put to the test by completing specific reining patterns, giving speeches both prepared and impromptu, and will demonstrate their social skills and interpersonal skills through mixing and mingling events.

"It's been the experience of a lifetime in every aspect of being able to represent not only the Stampede but the City of Calgary internationally and across Canada," said Carly Health, 2019 Stampede Queen.

The title of promoting the Greatest Outdoor Show on Earth does not come lightly. The successful candidate will need to be extremely committed, as once you are crowned "royalty" you will be stretched with a heavy workload, "It's a full-year program, it starts at the end of September and carries out through the end of September next year and in that year we do about 450 events."

Although Heath has lived in a few different cities, it was pretty eye-opening for her to experience the sense of pride within the community of Calgary. She thought it was pretty special to be involved in all sorts of events not only linked to the stampede but many others throughout surrounding Calgary and internationally.

"It's been an absolute blast," said Heath.

While there were many valuable lessons obtained through her run as Stampede Queen, the one moment that stood out for Heath was performing a speech at the Grandstand Show in front of about 35,000 people. Her nerves were quickly settled when she looked out into the large crowd and saw about 25 of her closest friends and family.

"It just took the nerves away and replaced it with excitement, just seeing the special people in my life being there to support me in such a huge moment of my life, that was definitely a highlight for me," said Heath.
