Three different Rocky View Schools (RVS) basketball teams finished perfect 2023-2024 seasons with championship wins and the Cochrane Cobras pulled off an incredible upset to claim a surprise championship.

The Bow Valley High School gymnasium played host to the  2024 RVS Basketball championships on March 2, where four different senior and junior varsity boys and girls teams were crowned champions.

Cobras Senior Boys complete shocking upset over Cavaliers to win Senior Boys championship

The Cochrane Cobras Senior Varsity boys team played the role of underdog against an undefeated Croxford Cavaliers team that spent all season in first place and had not allowed any opponent to finish within 10 points in any of their six regular season games.

In their lone regular season matchup, the Cobras lost to Croxford 85-74–the closest game Croxford played all season–but in their rematch in the championship game the Cobras bested the perfect Cavaliers, claiming the championship banner with a 87-73 win.

Phoenix Senior Girls cap off undefeated season with championship win

The Senior Girls championship saw an undefeated Springbank Phoenix team narrowly edge out the George McDougall Mustangs with a 53-49 win.

The Phoenix had walked through the regular season to finish with a 6-0 record and earned a first-round bye where they crushed rival Bow valley 66-31.

Although they went undefeated, the Phoenix had their share of close games through the 2023-2024 regular season. The Phoenix narrowly beat Croxford 42-38 in December and beat Bow Valley a first time 56-52.

Chargers remain claim perfection with close championship win over host Bow Valley

The Bert Church Chargers Junior Boys team won a nail-biter over Bow Valley 69-67 to claim their league championship on Saturday.

The Chargers coasted past the Croxford Cavaliers in their lone playoff game 93-64 after earning a first-round bye with an undefeated 6-0 regular season record. The Chargers had some close games throughout the 2023-2024 season, with a 90-80 win over George McDougall and a 84-76 win over another Airdrie rival W.H. Croxford.

Cavaliers Junior Girls cruise to championship win over Cochrane

The Croxford Cavaliers Junior Girls team capped off their perfect regular season with a dominant championship win over the Cochrane Cobras, finishing a 2023-2024 basketball season that saw the Cavaliers score 327 points in just six regular season games.

The Croxford girls put together a perfect run toward their championship, with a 84-11 win over the Springbank Phoenix and a 64-23 win over the George McDougall Mustangs. A first-round bye saw the Cavaliers easily beat Bow Valley 67-22 to set up the final against Cochrane.

The Cavaliers championship over the Cochrane Cobras was the closest game by point differential the Cavaliers had played all season. Once the first quarter commenced, the Cavaliers never allowed the Cobras to get within 10 points and the game ended with a score of 57-40 and a championship celebration for the Cavaliers.
