Calling all book and animal lovers.

The Cochrane and Area Humane Society (CAHS) is seeking book donations for its upcoming annual Fall Book Sale.

“It’s good timing – everyone can pick up their winter reads for when the weather gets cold and you need a good book read,” said Jaimie Anton, CAHS fund development officer and education coordinator.

Organizers are accepting donations at the shelter for books of any genre and age level, only asking that the books be in decent condition.

“We get a real good mix of everything – we get everything from fiction to biographies to kids books, we also (accept) CDs and DVDs as well,” Anton said.

The semi-annual event is one of the fundraisers the shelter hosts, sponsored by Big Hill Veterinary Clinic, to help with operating costs.

The shelter is aiming to raise a few thousand dollars from the sale to cover general costs that include food, shelter and medical needs for the animals.

“We’ve got a batch of kittens in and they don’t have their mom, so if they need formula (this sale) is helpful for those types of things,” Anton explained.

The Humane Society will also be operating regular hours during the book sale for anyone interested in adopting a rescued pet.

“We’ve got lots of cats and a fair number of dogs – we also have puppies and kittens,” Anton said. “We are looking for loving homes for our animals, and then the book sale is going on at the same time.”

The annual fall book sale will be held Oct. 16, 17, 18 from noon until 5 p.m. at the Cochrane and Area Humane Society, located at 62 Griffin Industrial Point.

“It’s a great way for people to get a chance to clean out what they don’t need and for other people to pick up some new books,” Anton said.
