A weekend of crime

Cochrane RCMP was busy this past weekend responding to several calls of theft and one drug bust. On Saturday, Cochrane RCMP received a complaint of a stolen powerboat from Ghost Lake Recreations.

Cochrane RCMP was busy this past weekend responding to several calls of theft and one drug bust.

On Saturday, Cochrane RCMP received a complaint of a stolen powerboat from Ghost Lake Recreations. The powerboat is a black and green Mastercraft X2 powerboat with Alberta Licence AB3420024. The boat was stored on July 24 on a black 2012 Mastercraft Tandem Axle trailer with Alberta Licensc plate 4RY242, which was also stolen. The owner reported the boat stolen on Saturday but through further investigation it was realized the last time the boat was seen was toward the end of July.

On Sunday, Cochrane RCMP responded to three reports of theft, two vehicles and one handgun.

The two vehicles were stolen from a residence in Woodland Ridge, a 2011 Dodge Journey was quickly recovered less than a kilometre away, while the RCMP members are still searching for the second vehicle, a white 2011 Jeep Grand Cherokee with Alberta Licence plate BCV1971.

It was reported that someone in the residence heard a noise at 2 a.m. and noticed a truck in the driveway but could not get a description of the truck.

Cochrane RCMP also responded to a report in Bow Ridge Road from a 53-year-old male that a handgun and ammunition were stolen from his vehicle. A .357 revolver unloaded with 25 rounds of ammunition was taken from the centre console of the vehicle, which was believed to be unlocked. When the owner noticed it was stolen, he reported it immediately. The owner has been charged with unsafe storage of a firearm and the investigation is ongoing.

Drugs were seized from Springbank on Sunday.

Cochrane RCMP were patrolling the Springbank area at approximately 4 a.m when officers noticed a vehicle at the Springbank Elementary School, given the time of year and time of day, the police felt the activity was suspicious and investigated. There were two males in their mid-twenties who were from the area, with a small amount of marijuana and a bong. The RCMP seized the drugs and paraphernalia and released the males with no charges.

Then on Monday, Cochrane RCMP responded to a complaint of a stolen vehicle from Gleneagles Close. The RCMP are currently searching for the white 2016 Ford F150 from Gleneagles Close, with the Alberta Licence plate BVK2776 and a unique bumper sticker on it “Don’t Blame Me I Didn’t Vote NDP. ”

The Cochrane RCMP would like to remind the public to ensure nothing of value or temptation is left in vehicles and to lock the doors and “firearms should never be left unattended and be secured at all times. ”

If anyone sees any of the vehicles occupied, the RCMP advises not to approach but to call 911 right away. If anyone sees these vehicles unoccupied, call the complaint line at 403-932-2211 and do not approach or disturb it.
