Highway 22 has now reopened after a collision near Riversong between a white Toyota SUV and a logging truck carrying lumber, at 7:19 a.m. It was the second major accident emergency services responded to in a nine-hour span.

The victim, who has been identified as a 34-year-old Cochrane woman, was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition with internal injuries. RCMP said she was trapped in the vehicle and had to be removed by fire personnel. Her name is not being released at this time.

“We are currently investigating the incident, ” said Cpl. Matt Pumphrey.

The driver of the logging truck is in stable condition and the cause of the accident is still under investigation.

"It is a very unfortunate incident," said Ed Kulcsar, from Spray Lake Sawmills. "We are following processes and doing an internal investigation and awaiting reports from the RCMP."

The first accident occurred at 11 p.m. last night. Cochrane RCMP responded to a motor vehicle collision on Highway 1 at Scott Lake Hill.

When members arrived on scene the collision was between an Infiniti SUV and a semi tractor trailer unit. The semi unit was travelling east on Highway 1 when the SUV travelled into the path of the semi. The lone driver of the SUV, a 32-year-old male from Calgary, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the semi unit was not injured.
