Activettes helping veterans

While there has been a tremendous outpouring of support for the Calgary Veteran’s Food Bank leading up to Remembrance Day, the Cochrane Activettes wants Cochranites to know their local food bank also helps the cause.

While there has been a tremendous outpouring of support for the Calgary Veteran’s Food Bank leading up to Remembrance Day, the Cochrane Activettes wants Cochranites to know their local food bank also helps the cause.

“As Activettes, we want people to know that we work in partnership with the legion to help out veterans,” said Carol Tapsay, who is on the Activette’s food bank committee.

She said veterans who reach out to the food bank for assistance will be referred to Cochrane Family and Community Support Services (FCSS) who will ensure the individual receives help through the food bank and legion.

Tapsay said while it’s positive to see such support for the Calgary Veteran’s Food Bank, the Activettes can make sure donations make it to veterans without the worry of driving to Calgary.

The Activettes’ surplus allowed it to donate an additional 33 boxes of food to the Calgary food bank.

After a “very successful” fall food drive in September, the Activettes are gearing up for the Christmas season with plenty of fundraising initiatives to ensure hampers are well-stocked this year – including the CP Holiday Train and Cochrane Light-Up.

Priorities on the donation wish list are rice and oatmeal.
