Arts enthusiasts are in for a real treat as the Alberta Culture Days event is returning to Cochrane.
The event, which runs Sept. 30 to Oct. 2, will see a variety of acts and performances celebrating the community’s arts, culture, diversity, heritage and talent at venues throughout town.
“Last year, there were performances all over town but, this year we’ve got a sizable amount and variety of different events,” said Michelle Boudreau, artist, entertainment organizer and board member for the Arts and Culture Foundation of Cochrane (ACFC). “Every year it’s different as artists change and manipulate their abilities.
“Also, the culture changes in the community.”
The Cochrane edition is just one of the many events around the province showcasing artists as part of the Culture Days initiative, and this year all of the artists performing are from surrounding areas, which will help to give the Cochrane art scene more exposure.
“A lot of them are involved in different artisan markets where they sell their wears,” Boudreau said. “Many of the people on the ACFC board are artists as well, so they’ve connected directly or indirectly with other peers in the community to come out and perform.”
Some of the events this year include, “The Importance of Garlic,” a stage reading with live painting and improvised music by Teatro dell’Eco (Jola Muran, Candace Carnie and Daunia Del Ben), “A new Warrior of Hope” – a community cinema project for youth by the Stoney Nakoda community, and the Heritage House Hootenanny – where some of Cochrane’s best musicians will take to the stage to jam for an evening.
