Kiwanis Christmas The Cochrane Toy Project will be held on Dec. 16 at Walmart, thanks to the new local Kiwanis chapter. The event starts at 8:30 a.m. with Santa’s arrival. Mayor Jeff Genung will also be in attendance. The event will provide $40 vouchers for 50 to 60 children, selected by FCSS. The children will choose a toy of their choice. The Cochrane Generals Hockey team will be helping the children shop. It’s the chapter’s first project as a new organization in town. Eagle's Nest Donation Drop off The women’s shelter in Morley is in dire need of new pajamas, undergarments and socks this winter. While toys are welcomed, the shelter is primarily hoping for the essential garment needs. Other donation items that aren’t often considered such as slippers and pajamas are welcomed at the shelter as well as giftcards to stores such as Superstore or Walmart. Items can be dropped off at Cochrane Family Chiropractic, Cochrane Community Yoga and Cochrane Tapestry Church. Other locations include Canmore’s Falcon Crest Lodge and Calgary’s The Loop Kensington. Handibus fundraiser The Rocky View Regional Handibus Society received a helpful donation recently. Gryzko Harper Bouw, a Cochrane accounting firm held a poker night at the Stoney Nakoda Resort and Casino and raised $8,500 for the society. Paul Siller, the executive director, said the funds will help offset the $25,000 deficit accumulated from the unexpected increases to the cost of fuel. Siller expressed his gratitude for the Cochrane support. Light up for a cause Laurie Glenn-Moore is once again using seasonal festivities to help collect much-needed food for the Cochrane Activettes Christmas Food hampers. Glenn-Moore’s home at 4 Glenpatrick Crt. is known for its amazing holiday displays, first for Halloween and now for the Christmas season. Aside from helping to light up her neighbourhood, Glenn-Moore also has a bin out front of her house collecting non-perishable food items for the food bank. Those what want to check out her annual display can take a drive by and she asks that people show their appreciation with a donation to the food bank. Glenn-Moore says the Christmas hampers need to be completed by Dec. 14 to be delivered in time for Christmas. The food bank are in need of large canned hams, white rice and peanut butter.
