Back by popular demand, Vancouver Island ‘stomp rock’ trio, ‘The Lion The Bear The Fox’, will be returning to Legacy Guitar and Coffee House for a June 11 performance.

“It was a surreal experience,” remarked Cory Woodward (The Bear), on their March 21 performance at Legacy. “Our last song drew a lot of tears in the crowd…the Cochrane show was amazing.”

Woodward will be joined by Ryan McMahon (The Fox) and Christopher Arruda (The Lion) for an evening that seeks to match their last high-energy delivery.

The show is one stop along their four-week Western tour, Freedom 2.0 — which has the trio raising money for their favourite charity, Music Heals.

The Vancouver-based charity seeks to raise money and awareness for music therapy. The funds raised by the band would go toward the charity’s ‘Brandwagon Project’ — a mobile recording unit that the band is helping to bring to care facilities across Vancouver Island.

To date, the trio has helped raise around $10,000 for Music Heals.

“That’s been my strongest desire with music,” said Woodward of the fundraising element that he feels is key for anyone in a public forum.

“We want to be a part of Music Heals for as long as the band is together, working hand-in-hand with them,” he said.

The band became involved with the charity following a 2010 meeting with singer/songwriter, Megan McNeil, who was in the midst of a battle with adrenal cortical carcinoma (a rare type of adrenal cancer).

McMahon worked with McNeil on the arrangement of her song, “The Will To Survive”.

Megan succumbed to her nearly five-year battle in early 2011 at the age of 20; her story received national attention and has gone on to inspire other youth battling cancer.

Woodward, wrote a song in honour of McNeil, “Sixteen”, adding that the young woman had passed before she had the chance to add to the song; her friends and other cancer survivors from Camp Goodtimes were brought in on the recording process; campgoodtimes.org.
