One man accused of kidnapping and killing former Cochrane resident, 24-year-old Ryan Lane, was denied bail again Dec. 12.

A judge ruled that Timothy Rempel would not be released before trial, set for March 2016.

Timothy’s brother, Wilhelm Rempel, and Timothy’s wife, Sheena Cuthill Rempel, are also charged with kidnapping and first-degree murder; Sheena and Timothy were first denied bail last May.

Wilhelm Rempel remains in custody; he has not yet had a bail hearing.

Sheena Cuthill Rempel and Ryan Lane had a daughter together, and it was believed that the two might have been engaged in a custody dispute.

Lane was last seen in northeast Calgary Feb. 7, 2012. His remains were discovered in November 2012.

A first-degree murder conviction carries an automatic life sentence with no parole for at least 25 years.

For a second-degree murder conviction, parole ineligibility can be set after serving 10 years.
