Bearspaw Historical Society to throw rocking bash

In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday and to celebrate the homesteaders and pioneers, the Bearspaw Historical Society is hosting a day of festivities on June 24.

In honour of Canada’s 150th birthday and to celebrate the homesteaders and pioneers, the Bearspaw Historical Society is hosting a day of festivities on June 24.

“There are quite a few homesteaders in the area – none of them are alive of course but the descendants are and they are all invited to the celebration,” said Lindy Vincent with the Bearspaw Historical Society.

While the day festivities invite residents and guests to join for the games, readings, food trucks, displays by local societies, slideshows, interviews with homesteaders and pioneers descendants, a live band and square dancing – the evening event will feature descendants of the Bearspaw pioneers for a special RVSP supper only.

“We want to continue the vibrancy of this area – people are interested in this land and what was in this area and what happened before them,” Vincent said.

The event will take place at the Bearspaw Historical School on June 24 with everything kicking off at 10 a.m. and a special unveiling of the Homesteaders’ Rock and raising of the Canadian flag at 1 p.m.

“It’s a good time for neighbours to get together,” Vincent said.
