The Cochrane Eagle is asking candidates an issue-based question each week leading up to the election that they will answer in their own words. If a candidate does not answer a question, we will include a bio box with a disclaimer saying the candidate did not respond. All candidates were given a limit of 185 words and questions will be edited to fit that length. Our third question is:
How do you plan to address the town’s growing traffic congestion?
The start of the cloverleaf next year will be greatly anticipated in relieving a lot of the congestion. The new bridge connecting north and south will provide alternative routes and relieve pressure on 22. GreenTrip for transit and other partnerships could emerge as alternatives by next year to alleviate traffic.
We need more bike and walking paths for options to work.
In the meantime, Cochranites can pitch in.
• Carpooling for work and getting kids to school; where safe and feasible, let children walk to school with an adult; Is it possible to shift the timing at intersections? i.e. Heritage Hills at 1A; Public transit (whatever shape that takes); Encouraging present and future businesses to let employees use more flex time to work from home and negotiate the four-day work week. I have sat and watched traffic from all angles all over town to observe the worst days and times for congestion. They are: Mondays and Fridays between 7:30 and 9 a.m. and 3:45 to 5:30 p.m. Also Sunday afternoon/evening especially in the warm months coming down 1A from Ghost Lakeetc.
