Those who visit the RancheHouse from June 27 to June 30 will have the pleasure of seeing local artist Beryl J Moe’s work.

Moe, member, former president, and current treasurer of the Foothills Art Club, has been using the RancheHouse to showcase some of her paintings. Her artwork ranges from landscapes to wildlife to flowers and more.

“I really appreciate the fact that the Town of Cochrane gives us the opportunity to showcase our art. They have always given us good support, especially Jola Muran in Recreation Culture, & Arts,” Moe said.

“I started painting over 50 years ago but I had a large family and banking career so I really started back painting again when I joined the Foothills Art Club in 2004,” Moe said.

Moe said while she didn’t have prior painting experience when she first started she always had a sort of artistic flare. Over the years she’s earned many accolades for her works.

“I always enter the Bearspaw County Fair and I have been fortunate enough to win some awards – I won the best of show award one year. I have entered in the Alberta Senior Games and have won a gold and a silver in that so that was quite an honour,” Moe explained.

Though Moe will take requests from customers, she prefers to choose her own projects.

“When you have to paint something, it doesn’t flow. I have a lot of fun with my painting and sometimes, when it goes really, I’m almost laughing because it’s working so good and the picture that’s evolving is really coming out,” Moe said.

Moe does not consider her painting a career and believes in pricing her artwork fairly. She loves that her passion connects her with people from all different walks of life.

“I sold one painting at the RancheHouse the other day to a gentleman … he was from Edmonton and was just here for a meeting. Last year I had a grain elevator and barn painting displayed and a gentleman phoned to say he was standing by the painting and he was going to stay there until I sold it to him – he grew up in the area where the elevator was and had collected boards from the barn,” Moe explained.
