Bow Valley High School will be jamming for donations on March 7.

Carrying on the annual tradition of hosting a Food Bank Benefit Concert, this will be the 17th year organizers are inviting guests out for a night of music and charity.

“We (host) the concert in the spring because the food bank tends to get less attention in the spring,” explained Rob Billington, Bow Valley teacher and organizer.

“The food bank gets lots of attention around Christmas but as you get farther into spring and summer there is less attention.”

The annual fundraiser typically collects a “couple of van loads of food” while also accepting monetary donations.

Between 130 and 140 musicians will take part in the benefit concert with five different student groups performing a variety of music. Band on the Bow will also perform.

“I guarantee there will be some great music from the band and the choir. There will be some jazz and some music from Little Shop of Horrors,” Billington said.

“It is a fabulous way to be involved with the community and a great way to see young people coming together with the adults. Lots of times you see adult activities or kid activities, it’s not often you see adults and kids involved in activities at the same time.”

All donations from the concert will go to the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank, which serves Cochrane and surrounding area including the communities in western Rocky View County – Bragg Creek, Redwood Meadows, Springbank and Bearspaw.

The benefit concert is March 7 starting at 7 p.m. at Bow Valley High School, located at 2000 River Heights Dr.
