It was a strike for the ninth annual Bowl For Kids Sake event last Sunday.

Twenty teams turned out to Cochrane Lanes on March 18 to five-pin their way to raising funds for the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Calgary and Area (BBBSCA) to benefit its Cochrane mentoring programs.

“Our goal was to raise $15,000 and we raised $15,850 … and we had 20 teams – up from nine last year,” said Stephanie Gillies, Cochrane program co-ordinator. “These funds go to support our existing programs and help us recruit new mentors to mentor our kids.”

The national organization is supported by donors and fueled by volunteers and has been operating for nearly 40 years. Their various mentoring programs serve more than 1,700 children and youth in the greater Calgary region.

The program seeks to “start something incredible – a life-changing relationship built on trust and empowerment.”

David Case, communications and marketing specialist for BBBSCA, expressed gratitude to all the event sponsors and bowlers – including town council members Mayor Jeff Genung and Couns. Marni Fedeyko, Susan Flowers and Pat Wilson for their Council Cruisers team participation.

For the third year in a row, Jacquie Matechuk and her team Cochrane Floors and More were the top fundraisers.

This is the 10th year that the Cochrane BBBSCA programs have been running. Learn more at bbbscalgary.ca/programs/cochrane.
