This is not Bradley Twoyoungmen’s first logo contest – but it is the most recent one he has won.

“Well how should I say this … it’s not so bad,” Twoyoungmen said with a laugh.

“It is nice they picked my logo.”

Twoyoungmen won the logo contest for the Chiniki Travel Centre, including the new Chief Chiniki restaurant.

The Chiniki Travel Centre was built to replace the Chiniki restaurant, which was destroyed by arson in August 2012 and the Gas Bar, which was closed in August 2015. The new Travel Centre hosts a convenience store on the main floor with an adjacent gas bar, and a 120-seat restaurant on the second level.

Twoyoungmen said he designed his logo based on the old Chief Chiniki Restaurant logo.

“I’ve been meaning to do a logo for that restaurant for a while, so when I finally got the chance, that is when I got into it.”

The artist said he is very excited that his logo was picked.

“Every time I drive by, I’m going to keep looking at it and smile – it is a great feeling,” Twoyoungmen exclaimed.

The new building is leased out to non-Stoney Nation members but the owners still employ Chiniki and Stoney members. And while the Stoney Nakoda First Nation’s Twoyoungmen has not eaten at the new restaurant yet, he said it is on the top of his to-do list.

“I hope to inspire other artists, to inspire them to do this kind of stuff around the reserve and hopefully they get the chance to do it,” Twoyoungmen said.

The artist won $1,000 in the contest and Twoyoungmen’s artwork will be unveiled on the Chiniki Travel Centre in the near future.
