This Holiday season a Bragg Creek animal lover and small business owner is once again asking her community to help feed hungry dogs.

Elizabeth Fermor, owner of used books and gift store, The Best Little Wordhouse in the West, located in the Bragg Creek Shopping Centre, will be accepting donations of unopened dry dog food on behalf of Dogs with No Names until the end of December.

In the spring and every December, Bragg Creek veterinarian Judith Samson-French, who heads the Dogs with No Names initiative, and her team of volunteers, visit First Nations communities and deliver dry dog food to help feed hungry unowned dogs as part of their innovative dog contraceptive project.

Dogs with No Names is a program that helps reduce the population of unwanted dogs on First Nations communities by implanting feral female dogs with contraceptive implants.

“I support Judith’s program because I know that nearby, especially in frigid December, there are hungry and cold dogs living outside,” said Fermor.

“I also do this because I love dogs,” added Fermor, who adopted her dog Bruno from the Animal Rescue Foundation of Alberta in Calgary.

Fermor added that it upsets her that there are unowned dogs worldwide that simply need a warm and loving home.

This is the third year Fermor has hosted this fundraiser, and Bragg Creek resident John Lyster said he and his wife Sandy would once again donate dog food for this important local cause.

“My wife Sandy and I are big animal lovers, so we donate dog food to Elizabeth’s fundraiser event on an annual basis in order to support this worthwhile local animal cause.”

Lyster encourages his fellow Bragg Creek and surrounding area residents to do the same.

To donate, bring unopened bags of dry dog food to The Best Little Wordhouse in the West, located in the Bragg Creek Shopping Centre.
