Bragg Creek Community Church pastor Dave Zimmerman said the Bragg Creek Food Bank, established and administered by his church, accepts donations of food throughout the year on behalf of the families they provide food hampers to.

Zimmerman is proud that his community gives generously throughout the year as well as during the Holiday season and said there are some families who access the food bank consistently throughout the year.

This Christmas, seven families will be provided with hampers, but that number can increase and vary depending on the year.

“We service the Greater Bragg Creek area throughout the year,” said Zimmerman. “This is the season to remind us of giving, but giving is a year round endeavour. We are happy to receive donations for our food bank or cash donations for our Benevolent Fund.”

The Bragg Creek church oversees drop-off boxes at the Bragg Creek Community Centre and Redwood House in Redwood Meadows.

Every Christmas the church’s youth group meets at the Bragg Creek Community Centre to assemble hampers and fill them with donated dry goods.

“The hampers also include gift certificates we purchase from Bragg Creek Family Foods through our Benevolent Fund, so the families can purchase some fresh produce.”

Zimmerman said the Greater Bragg Creek community has consistently been very responsive and have always supported the food bank.

“Due to the generous support of our community, we have never had to go looking for donations,” said Zimmerman. “It’s a great blessing to know that people in our community remember to donate to the food bank, and are proactive at supporting this worthy cause.”

Bragg Creek Family Foods owner Lori Gildemeister has a food bank drop-off box open for donations at her store year round.

Throughout the year, Gildemeister donates food from her store to both the Bragg Creek Food Bank and Turner Valley Food Bank.

“We do this because it is the right thing to do and we care for our community, whether it be Turner Valley or Bragg Creek.”

According to Gildemeister, there are several families who use the food bank year round in Bragg Creek.

To donate food to the Bragg Creek Food Bank call the church or drop off at the Bragg Creek Community Centre, Bragg Creek Family Foods, or Redwood House.
