BREAKING NEWS: Pedestrian hit and killed on Highway 22

A 53-year old female from Stoney Nakoda First Nation was struck and killed by a pick-up truck Oct. 1 when attempting to flag down a vehicle on Highway 22.

A 53-year old female from Stoney Nakoda First Nation was struck and killed by a pick-up truck Oct. 1 when attempting to flag down a vehicle on Highway 22.

On Thursday evening, the woman was experiencing mechanical issues with her vehicle, when she got out to flag down help, two kilometres north of Highway 8. The woman was attempting to stop a southbound pick-up truck hauling a covered utility trailer, when she was hit.

Cochrane RCMP responded to the call about a fatal collision at approximately 10:15 p.m. EMS and Fire also responded to the call. The woman was pronounced dead on scene, and the driver and passenger of the pick-up did not sustain injuries.

Cochrane RCMP continue to investigate the incident but have released that the driver of the pickup was not impaired. So far, no charges have been laid.

The name of the victim is being withheld until notification of next-of-kin.
