Fun Run

Cochranites are encouraged to dress in bright colours for the third annual Fun Run, which takes place through the Historic Ranche site this weekend.

The three- or five-kilometre run/walk, hosted by the town’s parks, recreation and culture department, begins at 9 a.m. on Saturday and kicks off with a dance party warm-up for families.

Face painting, games and more will be put on by Fun Van staff.

Registration for the run is $5 per person and can be completed at cochrane.ca/eservices or by calling (403) 851-2534.

Food drive needs help

The Helping Hands Society of Cochrane and Area is looking for volunteers to help stock the shelves of the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank during its upcoming fall food drive.

The bi-annual collection event takes place on Sept. 16, at Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre. Different jobs include picking up donations, unloading vehicles, sorting cans, boxes and other foodstuffs, directing traffic and more.

The spring and fall drives are responsible for collecting as much as 90 per cent of the food required to fill hampers for area families in need from Cochrane, Bragg Creek, Redwood Meadows, Springbank and Bearspaw.

In 2015, Cochranites donated more than 60,000 pounds of food and in 2016, the food bank helped more than 2,500 residents – including more than 1,000 children.

Interested volunteers are asked to send their names, neighbourhoods, contact information and vehicle availability to [email protected] or call (587) 580-9448.
